Our Story

Kivelstadt Cellars was founded for our love of amazing California vineyards. After leaving a career in consulting in his early twenties, Jordan Kivelstadt traveled the world making wine in California, Australia, Chile and Argentina.

In 2007, Jordan made 125 cases of Estate Syrah. He drew inspiration both from his winemaking experiences in the new world and his family’s passion for European cuisine, art and wine culture. Hence our focus became exploring the product of incredible California vineyards, with a nod toward the rich history and balance of the old world wines that came before us.

Since the inaugural 2007 vintage, our production has grown to 5,000 cases annually. We strive to create wines of intrigue that maintain a fun and approachable style and challenge the status quo of conventional California wines.


About Us


 

Jordan Kivelstadt - Wayward Son (and Founder)

As Founder of Kivelstadt Cellars, Jordan seeks to create wines that stand out. His passion for food and wine permeates everything he does. By day he is the Founder and CEO of Free Flow Wines, a wine on tap company focused on improving the quality and sustainability of the wine we drink in restaurants. He initially cut his teeth in wine working harvests in California, Argentina, Chile and Australia. Kivelstadt Cellars is Jordan's creative outlet and brings balance to his daily responsibilities at Free Flow. He pours all of those experiences into innovating in the wine industry and improving our wines at Kivelstadt Cellars vintage after vintage.


 

Sam Baron — Winemaker

Sam joined the Kivelstadt Cellars team in 2017. He met Jordan and they instantly bonded over shared winemaking and winegrowing philosophies. As Winemaker, Sam divides his time between managing wholesale sales, vineyard sourcing, production and almost everything in between. Sam's passion for restrained and elegant wines, organic and sustainable farming, and his thirst for exploring unique California vineyards makes him right at home in the Kivelstadt family.


 

Miles Burgin – Direct Sales and Marketing Manager

After years of service in military intelligence as an Arabic linguist, Miles heard the call of the vines and returned to his native Sonoma Valley to start a career in wine. Managing all aspects of the Kivelstadt Cellars tasting room, wine club, and marketing, he is enthusiastic about trying to break the mold of what a California winery can be while maintaining the small town charm and hospitality that makes his home town so great.

Steve Chamberlin - Operations Manager

Having concluded a 25-year career as a U.S. Coast Guard officer, Steve determined that his second act would be in pursuit of a passion.  He took a gamble and moved to Sonoma County in search of a role in the wine industry, rather than heading back to his old stomping grounds in New England.  Steve’s multifaceted role as Ops Manager includes everything from keeping us on the right side of government regulations to filling growlers and makes him the glue that holds the Kivelstadt team together. 

Dana Hunter - Tasting Room Lead

Dana joins the team after 8 years of working in tasting rooms in Lodi, Livermore, Napa and Sonoma. His passion for wine and sharing his knowledge led him to Kivelstadt Cellars and he is excited to be apart of the talented team. Dana can be found in the Tasting Room, at events, and anywhere else Kivelstadt wines are flowing.

Nancy Kivelson & Tom Angstadt – The ‘Rents

Kivelstadt Cellars wouldn't exist were it not for the inspiration from Jordan's family's vineyard. Tom & Nancy purchased Kivelstadt Vineyard in 2005, where they created a warm retreat for friends and family to gather. They manage the 10 acres of vines at the estate vineyard, which makes up about a quarter of our wine production. Amongst a million other things, they are passionate grape growers, food and wine lovers and a constant presence in our lives.
